We all have a story to tell…

I think one of our most wonderful qualities as human beings is our ability to create and share stories. Whether they’re based on fact or fiction, we’ve been telling each other stories for as long as we’ve been around.

I want to help you tell your story. Are you working on a novel? A trilogy? A series? Hoping to publish it? Do you need an outside opinion on the plot, characters, or flow of your work? Has your mom told you it’s perfect and you’re just not quite willing to trust her?

If you are looking for someone to critique all or a part of your manuscript, I would love to be your person. I cannot offer you a book deal, but I can help you get closer to scoring one, or get you ready to self-publish, by helping you make your writing the best it can be.

About Me

My name is Natalie, and I specialize in Middle Grade and Young Adult fiction of just about any genre. A lot of the books I read fall into the categories of contemporary fiction, magical realism, science fiction, or historical fiction. I also have some experience in fantasy (urban and epic) and thriller.

While my professional experience at this time may be limited, I have worked as an intern for Future House Publishing as a copy editor and proofreader, and I have over seven years of informal training and experience through various creative writing workshops and classes.

I recently graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s in English and minors in Communications and Creative Writing. I have also helped lead BYU’s extracurricular writing club, Y Fiction for about as long as I’ve been a college student. For that, I have led and participated in lessons on creative writing, and I’ve given and received critiques.

And, of course, I don’t just read other people’s writing. Some examples of the stories I’m working on myself include a Young Adult story based on the Robin Hood myths and a contemporary Middle Grade about the new kid in town and her ghostly friend, with many other projects on deck.

Here’s what others have to say about my services…

Melissa G.

“I am excited to explore suggestions Natalie gave to intrigue the readers and also to develop the Ancient Greek setting I’ve created! She pointed out small details which have a big impact on the comprehension of the readers that I should explain more in-depth. Her edits will be very useful to the continuation of my story.

“Thanks once again! You pointed out a good number of things I hadn’t realized were issues, and thank you for the comments you left on things I was doing well, it’s always nice to see what grabs the readers’ attention!”

Rachael W.

“I would recommend Creative Critiques Editing to any writer who wants their story or novel pushed to new heights. While some editors just leave your draft with marks, Natalie will take the time both during and after the edits to make sure that your story is left with the potential to grow and develop into something more beautiful and memorable.

“I didn’t really have a solid story until about a year ago when I began to work on the beginnings of my novel “Union.” I had a writing group at the time who helped me get it up and running, but it wasn’t until I entrusted Natalie with my first complete draft that the novel began to progress and really excite me.”

Kent H.

“I hired Natalie Phister to review and provide higher level editing on my manuscript. She did a great job and was good to work with. Her editorial letter addressed relevant elements to refining my work and she provided a superlative explanation alongside the review. 10/10, would hire to edit again.”
